Welcome to technology painting a site dedicated to “messing with computers.”*

With all the talk in the news about kids code, STEM, STEAM, it is easy to feel overwhelmed but lets take a break from that and play a game.

Click on the green flag to start.

In this game the Scratch cat asks Which of these things is not like the other?

    Television                      Computer                      Paintbrush

“For many people, the answer seems obvious: the paintbrush doesn’t belong. After all, the television and the computer were both invented in the 20th century, both involve electronic technology, and both can deliver large amounts of information to large numbers of people. None of that is true for the paintbrush.

But, in my view, computers will not live up to their potential until we start to think of them less like televisions and more like paintbrushes. That is, we need to start seeing computers not simply as information machines, but also as a new medium for creative design and expression.”**

This web site presents ideas for turning your computer into a paintbrush for creativity design and collaboration.  I will add a new tool every year and provide enough guidance for students and teachers without to much structure. Success with these new manipulatives is measured by the range of projects and experiences of each student.

imagprogshareSCRATCH Programing language is  the first and most accessible tool I am going to discuss.

Scratch is developed by Lifelong Kindergarten group at MIT.

Scratch is not just a programming language but an online community where children can program and share interactive media such as stories, games, and animation with people from all over the world.
As children create with Scratch, they learn to think creatively, work collaboratively, and reason systematically.
But don’t just read about it see what it can do for yourself.
